Key Migration Changes Taking Effect July 2026

Key Migration Changes Taking Effect from July 2026
As Australia enters the 2026-27 financial year, significant immigration policy changes are coming into effect. Here are the key updates every visa applicant should know:
Salary Thresholds Increasing from 1 July 2026 — The CSIT, TSMIT, and SSIT thresholds for employer-sponsored visas will rise. Employers and applicants must verify their salary packages meet new requirements.
Points Test Reform Imminent — The government will restructure the skilled migration points test to favour younger, highly qualified applicants. A consultation paper is expected by late June 2026.
Student Visa Reviews Now Paper-Based — From 1 June 2026, most student visa refusal reviews at the ART will be decided on documents only, without hearings.
Onshore Applicants Prioritised — Of 185,000 permanent migration places in 2026-27, nearly 130,000 are reserved for onshore applicants already holding substantive visas.
Working Holiday Visa Ballot Open — The Subclass 462 ballot for Chinese, Indian, and Vietnamese applicants opened 4 June and closes 25 June 2026.
Enhanced Compliance on Training Visas (407) — The ABF is conducting nationwide checks on training visa arrangements for genuineness.
