What is the Subclass 407 Visa?

The Training visa (Subclass 407) allows you to come to Australia for workplace-based occupational training to improve your professional skills.

This is not a work visa — the core purpose is training and skill development, not productive employment.

Three Training Categories

1. Occupational Training for Registration

Training required to obtain occupational registration or licensing in your home country (e.g. doctors, nurses, engineers).

2. Occupational Training to Improve Skills

Structured training to enhance your skills in an eligible occupation.

3. Occupational Training for Capacity Building Overseas

Sponsored by Australian government agencies or charitable organisations for overseas capacity building.

Duration: Up to 2 years
Main applicant: AUD $320
Additional applicant (18+): AUD $320
Additional applicant (under 18): AUD $80

Visa Conditions

Condition 8102: Cannot work outside the approved training program
Must follow the approved training plan
Must leave Australia when training is completed (unless holding another visa)
